Men's underwear: Start with the basics
When you've got a solid foundation, everything else is easy. That's why it's essential to always have some high-quality boxers or briefs and decent socks under your clothes. When you're shopping for pants, keep fabric choice in mind. Cotton is an old favourite that is particularly good for loose-fitting styles, thanks to its lightweight breathability. If you prefer a snugger fit, you'll need to find some kind of jersey blend that will offer decent hold, support and comfort. Whatever you choose, remember the golden rule: Your underpants should never be on display over your trousers! So 'belt up' to ensure that they stay safely hidden.
Boxers or briefs?
Your favourite style of men’s underwear comes down to personal preference. Classic Y-front briefs may be seen as a bit naff by some people, but they offer great support. They are also a popular choice if you have big thighs, which can be uncomfortably constrained by longer styles. Boxer shorts are comfortable and breathable but don't work with slim trousers. Boxer-brief hybrids, or trunk styles, are a popular choice for many men. These close-fitting pants offer the coverage of boxers with the support of briefs. Take care with trunks though: The waistband often sits lower, just on your hip bone, which is a style that can be hard to get used to. You'll also need to tuck your shirt in, or you'll risk showing off the top of your bum when you bend over!
Men’s underwear to keep you warm
You might wear your men’s underwear to bed, or you may prefer specific nightwear. This could be a classic pair of pyjamas, or some boxers and a vest top. Again, try experimenting with different styles to find the one that’s most comfortable for you. Some men prefer to wear a looser pair of boxers to bed, while others prefer a closer-fitting pair. If you tend to feel the cold, bathrobes are an essential addition to your wardrobe. Look for a classic plaid style, or go for a thick towelling design to keep you snug and warm throughout winter. Undershirts are another excellent way to keep the chill at bay. These should sit close against your body and be invisible under your shirt if you’re wearing it to the office. Make sure the colour you choose is close to the shirt you’re wearing on top; a black undershirt under white is a look that should always be avoided!
