How to clean your sneakers

Let’s talk about how to take care of your shoes so that they stay fresh and clean and last as long as possible – here are the best ways to clean your sneakers without damaging them.

The right cleaning products

For the ultimate clean you are going to need something to scrub your shoes, a mild cleaning agent, and a waterproofing spray. These will do the trick to clean your sneakers in no time.

You don't have any of those and need a quick freshen-up? Then see if you have some common household items that will do the job perfectly while being even more environmentally friendly. Look for a dry shoe brush, a toothbrush that works well to remove dirt, or a nail brush, a bar of soap, white toothpaste, and a sponge. Even lemon can be used to bleach stains off your shoes by mixing it together with water, or baking soda for making a cleaning paste by mixing equal parts baking soda and water. How easy?

How to wash your laces and insoles

Take out your laces and insoles from your sneakers when you wash them, especially if you do decide to throw your sneakers in the washing machine. This will keep the laces from being tangled or wrapped around any parts of the drum. We recommend hand washing your laces with laundry detergent and a soft brush to scrub them, and then just air dry.

Wash your insoles by hand as machine washing could leave them waterlogged and shrunk. Wipe them down with a soft brush and soapy water. You can also use a sponge to soak up as much of the excess moisture as possible or sprinkle the insoles with baking soda. Once the insoles have air-dried, place them back in your sneakers.

Making your sneakers squeaky clean

First, scrub the soles with a cleaning solution and a sponge. Take time to clean them by rubbing the dirtier areas intentionally but softly. You can also use a soft-bristled brush to scrub the stubborn dirt off.
